Ajloun Castle

Ajloun Castle is in the city of Ajloun, near Jerash. Ajloun is seventy-four kilometres north of Amman. The castle is at the top of a hill called Jabal Auf. The castle is about 830 years old.

Lots of people visit the castle every year. It’s very famous. There are a lot of rooms inside the castle. It’s got long tunnels and big walls. The original castle had four towers. They were very tall. In the past there was water around the castle. The water was sixteen metres wide and about fifteen metres deep. There isn’t any water today but there's a bridge.

There’s a museum inside the castle. It has some interesting art from that time.

Ajloun Nature Reserve is about 20 kilometres from the castle. You can walk there and see many different birds and trees. There are beautiful views of The Jordan Valley from the castle.
